Elementary School Librarian Accused of Choking 9-Year Old Student

An elementary school librarian is accused of choking a student who refused to sit down when told to do so.

According to the Baker Police Department, Maxine Gray, 67, was arrested on a cruelty charge Wednesday.

Police said the incident happened at Baker Heights Elementary on Sept. 1 and involved a 9-year-old boy.

Authorities were first contacted about it by the child’s mother on Sept. 29. At that time, it was being looked into by the Baker School Board, but the mom told officers she wanted the matter investigated further and she wanted to file criminal charges.

Investigators said the boy told them he was in a class and Gray kept telling him to sit down but he didn’t. He reportedly said he finally sat down, but then stood again.

Officers said the boy reported that’s when Gray grabbed him by the shirt with one hand, around the throat with the other and started choking him. He said he eventually got away.
